By Air: There are two airports that cater to visitors and residents - Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati caters to the majority of travellers - a two-and-a-half-hour drive to Shillong. While Shillong Airport in Umroi caters to some airlines only - a 50-minute drive to Shillong.
By Rail: The nearest railway station is at Paltan Bazar, Guwahati. Shared jeeps and cabs are available just outside the station or arrange for a pick up from us.
By Road: The state is connected to Guwahati by NH40 which is a well-maintained highway and easy to navigate. If you are planning to come here from Guwahati, you’ll have to begin in Guwahati’s Bara Bazaar from where you will reach NH37. Following this, you will come across Kamrup District and then NH40. Another 65kms from here, you will enter Meghalaya through Nongpoh. The drive to Meghalaya is stunning and most enjoyable and if you like the idea of going on an adventurous road trip, this is certainly the best way to reach the state.
Of course! Although we North Easterns are known for our love of meat and their practice of not wasting any part of the animal - there are many vegetarians residing in the state and locals and tourists are accommodated - restaurants all cater to the vegetarian diet. Just a side note - pure vegetarian places might be hard to find. As for places outside of Shillong, our hosts have been lovingly and carefully preparing food for all types of palettes. So not to worry - you will be able to eat meals according to your preferences.
With the city hosting high-speed fibre-optic internet and the rest of the state receiving good 4G coverage, you will be able to stream your favourite shows - if that truly adds to your experience. However, the coverage in some rural locations fluctuates.

Travelling to Meghalaya was a dream and Rose ensured that dream was made real. Right from a smooth airport pick-up to giving us homestays in gorgeous locations to accommodating every small request I made; she did it all so well. David, our driver was such a fun and helpful companion in this journey too. Overall, I am very pleased and would gladly recommend TRIS to friends and family.
